Episode 258 The Handmaiden
A Korean woman in the 1930s becomes the new handmaiden of a Japanese heiress. But things are not as they seem. Throw in explicit sex, sumptuous production design and the masterful direction of Park Chan-Wook and youve got The Handmaiden. Perhaps destined for a spot on Andrews Best of 2016 list, this film has become a critical darling, but not quite broken through to American audiences yet. The director of Oldboy and other violent films tackles a very different and sensual subject matter. The story has many twists and turns, all the while maintaining an elegant sense of detachment as it juggles a complex story involving many characters.
