Finally the suspense is over. After Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean comes Key Lime Pie! KitKat!
Yes, Android is naming their latest OS after Nestles famous candy bar, KitKat. Google has also confirmed that it got the blessing to use the "Kit Kat" trademark (though without the space), but with a twist. John Lagerling, director of Android global partnerships, explained to the BBC that "this is not a money-changing-hands kind of deal," but instead, they wanted do something "fun and unexpected." Google announced this news after 1 Billion Android devices were activated.
Lagerling also confirmed that his team did originally consider "Key Lime Pie" as a potential name for Android after Jelly Bean, but the issue was "very few people actually know the taste of a key lime pie."
This is quite amazing, as you know Key Lime Pie much more expensive than Kitkat, same thing goes with Android. Google teases its upcoming release with just the following line:
"Its our goal with Android KitKat to make an amazing Android experience available for everybody."
This day was one of the most eventful days in technology this year after the news of Microsoft buying Nokia and Apple sending invites for their September 10th event. I hope that this partnership will be sweet, and Nestle will have more candy bars, activating a Million a day ;-)
There will also be special Nexus branded KitKats. Nestle is organizing a lucky contest, where they are giving away Nexus 7 or Google Play Store credits (Remember Willy Wonka, anyone?)
