Video Sundance winning director Ava Duvernay is at the Amsterdam Film Week
Ava DuVernay is one of the voices of the new generation of black filmmakers. And this year she became the first African-American woman to win a best directing award at the Sundance Film Festival. She won for "Middle of Nowhere," a drama about a young black woman named Ruby who puts her life on hold while her husband is in prison.
The former aspiring broadcast journalist-turned-publicist overcame fear and ridicule to become an independent filmmaker. Heres the story of how she got there: read it on CNN.
She is at the Amsterdam Film Week on 6 and 7 November. On Tuesday 6 November she will be available for a Q&A during the screening of her film "Middle of Nowhere" and on 8 November she will be a guest in the Jameson Late Night Talkshow, where she will talk about her work.
